Health Care for pets in the Narooma area

Narooma is a beautiful place to live, and to visit for a holiday with your pet. However there are some serious pet health problems that we commonly see here. Paralysis ticks are active all year due to the coastal location, mild climate and surrounding bushland. Five ways that you can help prevent tick paralysis in your pet include:

  • Use some tick prevention eg frontline plus, advantix, proban tablets, permoxin spray or a tick collar
  • Check your dog or cat every day for ticks
  • Keep your pet out of bushland: stick to the beach, boardwalk or bicycle track when walking your dog
  • We can clip medium and long-haired dogs and cats
  • We can apply a tick rinse after hydrobathing your dog

Skin and coat problems are also frequently seen at our clinic, especially during the summer. Fleas are often the cause of  itchy skin. We do see cases of heartworm disease which is spread by mosquitoes. Outbreaks of kennel cough (infectious cough) occur, which is preventable by vaccination. Arthritis and dental disease are common, especially in older animals.
All dogs and cats must be microchipped then registered with the council as a means of permanent identification.
At Narooma Veterinary hospital we can help you with all aspects of your pet’s care, not just when they are sick. Our services include:

  • Flea and tick control
  • Vaccinations
  • Heartworm prevention
  • Hydrobath and grooming
  • Cat boarding
